I’m Gao Xing, from Baoding—home of donkey-meat sandwiches. I work in model evaluation in Beijing and want to grow into product work. Plenty of things make me curious; once I commit, I keep at it.

I hope to leave a trace of having been here

Naturally curiousPersistent once committedExploring product work
“When something interests me, I want to ask one question further. When I commit to something, I look for a way to keep going.”

I’m Gao Xing, born in 2003 and raised in Baoding, Hebei. ENTJ, Capricorn. I studied in Singapore before completing a Master of Computer Science at the University of Sydney, specialising in Software Engineering. I joined ByteDance in July 2026 and now work in international model evaluation in Beijing.

Getting here took a few attempts. Late in the spring recruitment season, I was applying until I hit the job platform’s daily limit, and several interviews didn’t work out. Eventually, my current team gave me a chance. That is how I ended up here, writing documents and doing evaluations. (Apparently, “try again” was a useful strategy.)

I’ve long been interested in product work. I like thinking about company strategies and why products work the way they do—with the occasional complaint about a frustrating feature. Turning those observations into good products takes more practice, and I’m still learning. I’d love to talk with people in product and broaden my thinking.

I work in model evaluation and quality analysis, organise observations clearly, and collaborate with the team on improvements.

Ongoing

Model evaluation & quality analysis

Contribute to model evaluation, with a focus on evaluation quality, problem analysis and collaboration. This work helps me develop careful observation and clear communication.

My contributions

  • Evaluation and quality review: Contribute to evaluation work, paying attention to content quality and information accuracy.
  • Problem analysis: Organise observations and issues into clear, actionable feedback.
  • Collaboration: Discuss evaluation findings with colleagues and support improvements.
Completed

PPT Visual Quality Evaluation

Whether a presentation looks good deserves careful evaluation too. This project compares multiple rollouts of the in-house model and compares it with SOTA models. I mainly handled question-bank development and quality checks.

My contributions

  • Build the question bank: Prepare tasks for presentation visual quality evaluation, supporting comparisons across in-house model outputs and against SOTA models.
  • Check task quality: Review clarity and suitability for presentation generation and visual evaluation, identifying issues that could affect the comparisons.

Some questions need a working project

Crop Classification System
Remote Sensing

Crop Classification System

A crop classification project using ESA Sentinel-2 imagery and a TCN temporal convolutional network. It covers six land-cover classes, including wheat, barley and canola, with an Overall Accuracy of 0.774.

What I was thinking

Can a satellite image tell us what is growing on the ground? This project let me explore the connections between satellite imagery, temporal data and classification results.

Knowledge System

Personal AI Knowledge Base

A personal knowledge system using RAG and multiple models, with multi-format document ingestion and semantic search.

What I was thinking

Saving information is easy; finding it when you need it takes some work. I built an ingestion, indexing, retrieval and generation workflow to make collected material searchable and available for questions.

There’s a lot of world left to see

A mountain a year sounds like a good tradition

My girlfriend and I have climbed Baishi Mountain, Laojun Mountain, Wugong Mountain and Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, and travelled through plenty of cities. We want to keep the annual hiking tradition. All that walking and eating also added about 10 kg each. (Neither of us gets to laugh.)

The conversations you didn’t plan

On a road trip in Tasmania, we spent an evening around a fire with the older couple who ran our accommodation, talking about cultural differences. I still remember how relaxed it felt. The people along the way stay with you too.

A serious interest in the slightly mysterious

Since 2020, I’ve been exploring Chinese traditions including Zi Wei Dou Shu, Mei Hua Yi Shu and feng shui. My interests are broad, and I enjoy exchanging ideas. For me, much of it comes back to understanding myself, living my own life and finding happiness.

A little more about me

What do you do now?

I'm Gao Xing. I work on international model evaluation at ByteDance, including evaluation and quality analysis, and have worked on PPT visual quality evaluation. I organize observations, review issues and collaborate with the team on improvements.

What is your educational background?

I studied Information Technology in Singapore and pursued a Master of Computer Science at the University of Sydney from 2024 to 2026, specializing in Software Engineering. My academic background is software engineering, not machine learning.

Which projects have you built?

My projects include a Luckin private-domain AI agent, a personal AI knowledge base, and a crop classification system using ESA Sentinel-2 satellite imagery. The projects section describes the technologies, implementation and questions behind each one.

What would you like to talk about?

Model evaluation, software projects, product experiences, travel, hiking and traditional culture. I'm interested in product work and still learning; my current role is model evaluation. Contact details and public profiles are below.

A good conversation starts here

Exchange product ideas, travel tips or thoughts on traditional culture. I’m always happy to meet curious people and hear a different perspective.
